I'm reading the book Night, by Elie Wiesel. What originally attracted me to Night was of how short it was, and how supposedly extremely graphic it is. From the pages I've read, nothing has gotten to graphic but the signs of the beginning of WWII has settled into the author. But I am quite excited for this book too take a real dark turn cause I'm a big fan of horror and highly descriptive blood and gore books.
ReplyDeleteThe night seemed very interesting to me as well because i am a huge fan of world war 2 books and movies. The concentration camps were horrible and i wanted to truly understand what the author went through in the night.
Deletei wonder how well the athoer does at the graphic sences with it being short.
Deletesounds like a great read. That was my first pick that I wanted but I did not get it. For what you said it sounds very interesting, Holocaust books can be very deep and sad
DeleteI am reading night as well. I am also quite excited for this book, but I am also a little bit nervous about the dark parts. I think I can handle them though! I hope you enjoy this book.
DeleteI am also reading the book Night. And I as well cant wait for it to start to get more interesting.
DeleteI also can't wait for the plot to thicken MUAHAHAHAHAH!
DeleteI'm also excited for this book to get into what the Holocaust actually was. It hasn't gotten into much of the war, just the beginning parts. I'm also glad its short but worried I will finish it too early. I've been passing myself.
DeleteThe thing that attracted me to this book was was the idea of how someone can go from torturing people to be given a second chance in life in society. Right now the primary focus in the book is Ishmael Beah staying alive while his town is being raided by rebels. After reading the first few chapters it is still hard to make out the scenery of which this is all happening. I was not expecting this book to get right into the action as it just started out with him and his friends taking about fashion and traveling. Good read so far.
ReplyDeleteThe book the kite runner that i am reading also follows a character who's country is soon to be taken over by rebels. The country seems to be very happy and peaceful at the moment but i think it will turn gruesome like your book.
Deletesounds like a good book. kind of confusing it seems. I would hate to not know what the location or scenery of the book is after the first chapter or so.
DeleteAh, the book about the child soldier, I must admit that this book was my first choice and it sucks to hear that it is hard to imagine. I must say that the main reason I chose it as my first choice was because I wanted to see how far people will go just to survive. Also good to hear that the pace isn't too slow, which may be the reason it is hard to imagine.
Deletei agree the book does not give you anytime to fully explore the setting and just gets right into the action.
DeleteThis book sounds like an intriguing read. I am reading the book Night, and it is also getting raided by German troops and it is very hard to make out the scenery of where this is taking place. Glad it has been a good read for you so far!
DeleteThis book sounds like it twill be full of emotional turns and nerve wracking situations. I'm interested as to where this little boy would find the chance to escape such violence at such a young age.
Deleteits a good book. its fun to read cant wait to see what happens next.
DeleteThe book got my attention because it looks at the war that the country of Afghanistan is going through and it takes place through a kid point of view. The book initially started off pretty slow, by introducing characters and understanding there background with one being wealthy and having the primary religion in Afghanistan. While the other poor kid is a servants son to the rich boy who's religion is far different the anyone else's, for they are treated as less because there people rebelled against the primary religion. The book seems very interesting and I like how they set up the characters to have many flaws.
ReplyDeletewe are reading the same book, dope. I also thought the book started off slow. seems like you have a good analyses on the first few pages.
Deletesounds like a great read it was one of my top three options. Those war stories and so messed up and sad and it is even more sad when it comes from just a young kid.
DeleteIt starts out slow but it gets good really quick. it sounds like it will keep getting better
Deletethe book also got my attention being in Afghanistan/middle east. I would agree that Amir and hassan's lives are different other then wealth and hassan's discrison which. i didn't think was religious i thought it was past.
DeleteI agree that the book starts off slow and it makes it hard to want to read it. I hope that it will get more interesting the further i read.
DeleteI am reading the book kite runner. even though its wasn't my first choice the main thing that attracted me to the book was that it was based on Pakistani and the Taliban and the experience which I thought would be pretty cool to learn about. The primary focus of the book is pretty much to religions fighting against each other and the Taliban taking over the country. the main character is kind of like an antagonist who doesn't like religions either. After the first few pages my thoughts is that I wish there was more action in the early pages rather than a few gun shots something to keep me wanting to read. The book is not bad hope it gets better though.
ReplyDeleteThis book was my second choice to read. I'm really curious to know about life in the middle east of that time. It must be sad to think about what these people went through during the wars, Taliban, and unnecessary killings.
DeleteThe main character definitely does acts a lot like how an antagonist would. the book is definitely slow as the author spends more time writing about more minor events.
DeleteThis book was my third choose because it caught my attention when i read what it was about
Deletethis was my second choose and i wish i could have it as my book.
DeleteI also thought that would be interesting to learn about a different culture and how different their lives are from mine.
DeleteI am reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel. This book was my second choice and I am happy with it. I think it will be good for me to learn about the Holocaust and a true story from a survivor. I also think this book is really relevant for me because I will be traveling on the Europe trip this summer and actually visiting a concentration camp in Germany. My first thoughts of the book were that it was moving faster than I thought. There wasn't a long intro which I liked and appreciated. By page 17 they are already on their way to Auschwitz. Even though I am not super far in the book I definitely think this book will shock me with a lot of information I did not know. I am looking forward to learning more about a very import time in history.
ReplyDeletesounds like that book will be really sad and have a lot of people dyeing in it
DeleteIt will be very cool for you to read this book and then go visit a concentration camp memorial after knowing a true story from someone who survived it. I think that experience will be different for you than it is for other who have not read this book. I also agree that there wasn't long intro and yesterday I only made it to page six so imp still confused I hope you enjoy it!
DeleteI also got my second choice book, and after reading a couple of excerpts in other classes about this book it does sound very interesting, also good to hear the pacing is pretty quick.

DeleteThis book was one of my top few choices, I like books that retell first hand accounts of war event. Books like these are the only few reason I would actually pick up a book . This book seems far more interesting than have to sit down and read a textbook about the holocaust.
DeleteI am reading the book a long way gone by: ishmael beah. I am only two chapters in so far but the book is very gory. It sad to see that a kid who is only tweleve years old has to kill people. The part that made me hooked and a little freaked out is when he talks about killing people and then sitting on the dead people bodies as chairs and eating the food they had for themselves while they are bleeding to death
ReplyDeleteOur books are similar in the way that there is a lot of killing and attacks on poeple.
DeleteI agree that part of the book does a great job of showing the horrors of war and how much the war has effected Ishmael.
DeleteJUDEEE i was also wanting to read this so it suck i got the book i had no interest in, I'm looking forward to see how the book goes throughout the blogs, so far it seems interesting as i thought and lots of emotion and maturity a kid had to go through at such a young age.
DeleteI agree that is sad to see Ishmael expernice this as he is only twelve years old and is separated from his family and on the run from rebels avoiding trying to be killed and shot. The book is very gory and the part of them sitting on the dead people they killed and eating there food freaked me out as well and showed how intense the rebels were about the people in Sierra Leone.
DeleteThis book was last on my reading list. Since I heard more about it, I want to read it now. It seems very interesting but tragic at the same time. To realize how different our lives are compared to these people are insane. Let me know more about it in the future.
DeleteSounds like a very intersing book. This was on my list! I think our books are very similar with the era they were in and young kids being in war. Cannot wait to hear more!
DeleteYes the part about him killing innocent people really got me hooked as. The way he described the situation really made it seem like I was their watching what they were doing to these people.

ReplyDeletei don't think that that book was high on anyone's list. but we don't really have a choice but i hope that you use the audio book and just fly through it and then realize that is a decent book but just doesn't really fit the day and age.
DeleteI am reading Night by Elie Wiesel and what originally attracted me to this book was the fact that it is a true story about the Holocaust. This unit in US History was my favorite and really interested me about this time period. I would really like to visit Auschwitz some day. I only made it to page 6 yesterday so I don't have any information yet and I do think it has a slow start and am excited and also nervous to get to the actual part of his story.
ReplyDeleteI also thought the same about how it was a fast start into the storyline. I feel very nervous about what will happen with Elie Wiesel and family too. I saw on the back of the book that he has to struggle with the death of his family. This makes me feel sad to know I will have to read that part eventually. I think this book will be really cool to learn about.
DeleteI am currently reading the book called "I am Malala" I must say I was mainly attracted to this book because I think it is interesting to look at thing from the perspective of someone who got shot in the head and somehow survives. My books primary focus so far has been about Malala, her family, the area that she lives in, and how it interacts with the rest of the world. And so far She hasn't spoken too much about how she feels except that she is afraid of the Taliban shooting her father or her. This is before she actually got shot. I rather like how quickly the book just jumps right into it, the book starts off originally detailing the events that happen before she is shot in the head while on the a school "bus" with her friends. I must say I wasn't expecting how in depth she went, when she described being shot, but I enjoy this book so far.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite intrested now, you've gotta let me know how the book progresses and the full story of it as well. I honestly would have picked it for the knowledge of the cutlure in the Middle East, but the book Night attracted me more for how short it was alongside how intensely graphic it's supossed to be.
Deleteim reading a long way gone so far the book already has some people dying in it. one mom had a baby on their back that got shot and if the bullet went Thore the baby it would of killed mom to. the kids are trying to find their parnets in all this war and killing thats happing
ReplyDeleteThe primary focus in I Am Malala is a woman named Malala from Pakistan who stood up for education when the Taliban took control of their town and was then shot because of it. The book is starting slow but it is still interesting reading about traditions and morns in Pakistan
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting book! I hope the book speeds up and more happens. Cannot wait to hear more about it!
Deletethe book i am reading is called A Long Way Gone. It talks about the struggles of a surviving child of war who experienced a civil war in his own country of Sierra Leone. right now in the book Ishmael is fleeing the rebels who just recently attacked his hometown. I think this book is good so far and had a start that jumped right into the action.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThis book was my first pick and i really wanted to get it. Good to hear that it is already getting good.
DeleteA Long Way Gone was my first pick, but I did read it before and it is a very good book, but there are times when it gets emotional.
DeleteI agree that A Long Way Gone jumps right into the action as well. It starts off with a little of Ishmael backstory and his family, to the rebels invading his hometown killing multiple people and causing people to dispurst into hiding. It grabs your attention as you wouldn't expect so many people to be killed and for Ishmael to be seperated from his family and friends.
DeleteMy book Night also had a pretty fast jump into the story like yours A Long Way Gone. I loved how most of these books we are reading do have a fast start. Other books I have read that take forever to get to the climax make me very bored. Another thing in common is my character also just had his town attacked and was forced to head to Auschwitz.
DeleteI can make a connection from your book to mine as the book Night talks about a boy who struggles to fight for his life during a war. Keep me posted on how he overcomes the struggles he faces.
DeleteThe book i got was A thousand splendid suns and I wish i would've gotten this book it sounds good and i like when it starts off fast and mine is starting so slow.
DeleteI am reading the book Night. The main thing that attracted me to this book is the fact that it is a true story that takes place during the Holocaust. These type of stories really interest me and the fact that it is a true story written by a survivor. My first thoughts of the book are pretty good, but there are a lot of things going on at once and it is hard to keep track of where I'm at. I think that the book really jumps right into the action and this makes me want to keep on reading.
ReplyDeleteI second that. The book starts off hot and gets right into the action. I'm not a big fan of such a fast start, but it gets me wanting to read more as the intensity rises.
DeleteI got A Thousand Splendid Suns and I wish i got this book because is slow and wasn't really my first choice.
DeleteI am reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel. This book was not my first choice, but I am happy I got it. I am happy I got it because I am not very educated on the Holocaust, and I would really like to know more. I am intrigued that it is a true story written by a survivor. So far it has been pretty good, a lot of things are happening, but I am staying on track well. It is hard to picture where he lives and where everything is taken place. The book really jumps into action but gives us enough background information to not be so confused but not too much to where I got bored. I am excited to read more!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the information part because it makes sense how it all started from the beginning.
DeleteThe book I am reading is The Kite Runner. This book was able to get my attention because it looks at the war the country Afghanistan and it takes place through a different from point of view from what we were shown in are childhood. The book started off slow, by introducing a few of the main character and her friends. It started by telling us there background with one being wealthy and having the primary religion in Afghanistan. While the other poor kid lives as a servants son to the rich boy. His religion is far different the anyone else's, because of that they are treated as less because people rebelled against the their primary religion.
ReplyDeleteI put Kite Runner as my second it was hard between splendid suns and this book as my first and second choice because i feel like this book is similar to splendid suns just different gender roles and other hardships and situations that the two main characters in each book face
DeleteI am reading Night by Elie Wiesel. What attracted me to Night was thought of how a human could harm and torture another human in ways that are just wrong in the mind. The focus in the book Night is what happened in the eyes of the main character which is Elie Wiesel himself. It is his point of view of what happened during his childhood of only being 13 through many more years and being held by Germans to kill them one by one. After reading a few pages in seems a slow read it starts off calm just how everyday life is but then it starts to drift in a direction where horrible things will occur eventually. My first impression is clam, but thinking what will be next.
ReplyDeleteyou are lucky i wanted this book it seems like it is a really good start and it was get really interesting is it is not already.
DeleteI thought this book started out faster than any other book. for example, within the first 15 pages of the book they were pushed into ghettos and had to follow strict rules otherwise they would be killed.
DeleteThis book sounds full of on edge events, this book was one of my top choices and it sounds really good. I could not imagine the stuff that child went through.
DeleteI loved hearing about this book it was i think my third choose and that i probably would never been able to stomach it all and the story line was awesome to hear but i feel that read would have been to difficult to read for me but i am glad you like it.
Deletenight sounded okay but i probably would have fell asleep because the book looks old no disrespect to the guy but i read thru it once and it was a solid 4/10
DeleteThe Kite Runner was my book, it is such a powerful book off start its all about redemption and friendship. the main focus is Amir's journey to make things right after his past mistakes. the characters face their challenges with a mis of regret and courage. from the get go, it dives deep into intense themes no slow start, my first impression. its gripping and emotional right from the start and it snatches your attention.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this book is very powerful but is also a very slow book hopefully something happens here soon
Deletei agree, we have the same author and both books are starting out strong i am curios to see if the out come will be close to the same due to having the same author
DeleteI agree, the book really captures how the characters are feeling and it draws you in
DeleteI was attracted to read A Long Way Gone because the author is the main character Ishmael is also the author of the book and tells the story of rebels coming and attacking his town he lives in and his perspective of how he dealt with that. The story begins off a little slow but then jumps right into the rebels attacking his village he lives in during the schooldays causing everyone to run, breaking up families, and losing contact with other people. Ishmael has a older brother Junior who he escaped with tracking through the forest to try and find somewhere safe away from the rebels. Ishmael and Junior were separated from there younger brother, and mother and father when the attack of the rebels accoured. This book is interesting to read because as Ishmael and his friends search the forest for safety problems occur and you never know what is going to happen next.
ReplyDeleteI like how in the first couple of chapters we see what is happening around Ishmael and we get to see what he's going through and hopefully how he can recover from what is happening around him.
DeleteThe book I wanted to read was A Thousand Splendid Suns, I was attracted to this book because it seemed different from most books I already read and it had a lot of hardship that both characters face. The start of the book started very slow and was hard to keep up with, many names and events going on. A big event just happened in my book where the main character's mother ends up dead and now she is left with no one, unless her father decides to step into her life again. I think Mariam handles this situation the best she can and she allows herself to be sad about it. Overall, my first impressions of this book are that it is harder to understand but sounds good right now.
ReplyDeleteThe book is hard to understand, so hopefully the book gets more easier to understand as the chapters and story continues to go on and hopefully it doesn't get any slower
Deletei can kind of relate because of the two boys in my book and how it is a little hard to read but i get that and mine is slow i would have loved reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. It sounds like a good but a little difficult.
DeleteIt appears that the book starting off slow is a common occurrence with Khaled Hosseini's books. I am reading Kite Runner and this book also starts off really slow.
DeleteI agree that it was hard to get into the book. I read the first few chapters then re-read them because I was confused and then I understood it better.
DeleteI'm currently reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel. This book compels me in a way that no other book does. I'm constantly wanting to read because I want to know what's next. The way everything happens so quickly astonishes me. Elie's life seemed normal until war was breaking and German soldiers came and took over the Jews privacy, they ended up sending them all to ghettoes and camps, It really teaches me a lesson to be aware of what's going on because life could change so drastically in a short period of time.
ReplyDeletei agree with you that everything happened so fast and out of nowhere. i hope something like this never happens again.
DeleteI am also surprised how everything is happening so quick. 20 pages in and they're already being sent out of the ghettos!
DeleteThis book was on the top of my list. This book is kind of like mine a long way gone where it gets right into the action. Im glad there is a lot of action.
DeleteYeah, this book was on the top of my list because it was where and when the story truly takes place in.
Deletethe book I am reading is night by Elie Wiesel. The thing that attracted me to this book was getting to learn more about WWll and concentration camps. the focus of the book is how the holocaust happened while being told through the eyes of the author as a child. after reading a little bit about the book it is hard to imagine everything that happens because it happens so fast. i think this book will show how horrific everything was.
ReplyDeleteThis was my number one book that I wanted to read just because of the topic seemed so interesting
Deletei liked the idea of wanting to learn more about wwll but also what the jew had to go thru during this time witch is what attracted me to the book night.
DeleteI am with you here. The Holocaust was one the worst time to be around, even if you are in the country watching this.
DeleteThe book that I got was Kite Runner and so far in the book it talks about the main characters point of view of the war in Afghanistan. After reading a few chapters in the book it starts off very slow by introducing the characters. There are some parts in the book where I don't know what they really are talking about too.
ReplyDeleteIts alright buddy I'm in the same boat. Hopefully we can get some clarity here soon. At least there should be no confusion on what the characters look because of Khaled's extremely detailed descriptions.
DeleteI am reading Night by Elie Wiesel. What attracted me to this novel is the history that is involved with it. WWII was a rough time for our world and an even tougher time if you were of Jewish heritance occupying around Germany. The fact that Elie dealt with the concentration camps and lived to tell the tale is inspiring to me. It sheds light and opens new views on an event that holds many secrets. The start of the book is fast paced, which I'm not a big fan of, but I can deal with it. Its also not terrible to understand so I hope I end up enjoying this book.
ReplyDeletethat funny i thought the first chapter was just slow and misplaced and i don't feel like it really belongs in the book but as soon as it gets pass its off to the races
DeleteI feel that after surviving all this death and seeing how humans can act I do not understand how Ellie is able to trust another human being ever again.
DeleteWhat first attracted me to the book The Kite Runner was the plot, on how the friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his fathers servant where effected by the rise of the Taliban in their country. The book starts off a little slow in the beginning with introducing the characters and their appearance. So far it's been a little confusing on who the author is talking about but I'm hoping that as i read further on the author goes in deeper about how the Taliban affects their town since i enjoy reading books that tell first hand accounts of historical war events.
ReplyDeleteThe book I got is Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Now this was not my first pick but its ok. I believe the reason I put this as my 3rd pick was because I was drawn to see how powerful friendship can really be especially in a war setting. The book definitely started off slowly and almost tedious to read but its getting better. Right now, I kind of know what's going on but again I don't. Khaled did a great job at explaining and developing the characters early on but as the story progresses I'm starting to lose track of who's talking.
ReplyDeleteI agree, because of the unusual names its hard to keep track of who is who
DeleteI also was drawn in by the war in Afghanistan. So far there has been nothing about that except for when the heard the shots from the coup. It also appears that the coup has not changed their lives at all.
DeleteThe book I choose was night, being as I love history I thought this would have been the perfect book for me I loved the fact that it is very fast and jumps right into the concentration camp part of the story within the first few pages i loved how much detail he uses in his book because it shows the condition on he really lived. As of the first few chapters I am enjoying the book just like I thought I would.
ReplyDeletethis was my first choice and i was disappointed that i didn't get it i am curious to se how this book plays out.
DeleteWell by the sounds of it everyone wanted this book, not only because it is the shortest book, but also because of the fact they enjoy reading about history. I'm also glad you got the book you wanted.
DeleteI am also so happy that I got this book because I love learning about history and the Holocaust. Some of the ways that these humans are treated makes the book hard to read but so far so good.
Deletei very much agree with wanting to learn more of the history of the jew and what happen witch is why i also chose night as my number one pick.
Deletethis was my first choice, its nice that you got a book that you are interested in. it is also nice that it grabbed your attention right away. hope you enjoy the rest of the book
DeleteI am reading this book to, and I am glad it jumps right into the action because it is a short book.
DeleteI'm kind of disappointed that i got my third choice but the story starts out strong by pulling me in because she is always being blamed for being born. i think that it will be interesting how the main character will grow from the rejection and poverty
ReplyDeleteThe book I wanted to read was A Thousand Splendid Suns, I was attracted to this book because of the hardships that both characters face. The start of the book started very slow, I think Mariam handles this situation of her mother's death the best she can and she allows herself to be sad about it. My first impressions of this book are that it is harder to understand but hopefully it will be easier to understand going more into the book
ReplyDeleteI was also very interested in this book because of the hardships they face and it sounded like an interesting read to see what they went through.
DeleteIt does sound like a good book, but why is it hard to understand? I hope that it gets better the more you read.
Deletei personally was mainly attracted to the book title because it sounds like an 80's song that i would really like compared to the other ones but than never realized its been okay i guess
DeleteI completely agree with you about wanting to read a thousand splendid suns. I too am reading this book. There is an audiobook for this book and the person reading it does a good job of stopping and explaining what all of the words mean. If you would like I could send it to you.
Deletefrom night what drew me is how the teacher described it as being gut wrenching and hard to read for what they do. and the book doesn't disappoint it is a little slow at the beginning, but it picks up pace very quickly I'm enjoying it very much and with the audio book the reading goes by fast..
ReplyDeleteI am reading The Kite Runner and so far it is a little slow i mean there is nothing interesting yet but I kind of understand and so far we are only learning about the family and the things that they are doing. where only learning about how Amir is and his father.
ReplyDeleteSeems like everyone feels that way about this book.
DeleteMy book is starting of the same way as yours with learning about Elie and his father, in Night we learned that Eliezer's father was killed Infront of him.
DeleteKite runner does start slow but may pick up the pace later. also learning about Amir and his father can be important because it tells us a lot about these who could become important later.
DeleteWhat attracted me to the book Night by Elie Wiesel, is the fact that it has to deal with World War 2. The primary focus of the novel is to show how Jews were treated during their time at concentration camps. I am not really far enough into the book to really know how Elie is dealing with this. I would imagine it was hard to deal with all that happened. I like the book so far; it is interesting to see why he translated his book to English and why he decided to write his books.
ReplyDeleteI am also reading Night and I also find it interesting to think about how Jews were once treated, and it'll be different to learn about it from a survivor's point of view and a teen male.
DeleteI am reading Kite Runner. Kite Runner was not my first choice, however so far the book is good. The book is pretty slow, it takes its time explaining little details. The main conflict so far is that the main character is not living up to his fathers expectations.
ReplyDeleteI think Kite Runner was my second or last choice if I remember correctly, but you've gotta tell me more about that book as I'm not to knowledgable in the Middlle East and I'm quite intested about these kinds of books.
DeleteI think that the main character will join the war to please his father and try to make him proud.
DeleteSounds kinda interesting. How you enjoy the book when you get farther into it. I think that a lot of are books are starting off slower giving lots of details. Hopefully it helps with are understanding of the book.

ReplyDeleteThe book that I'm reading is Night by Elie Wiesel, what really attracted me to this piece of literature was my interest in World War II and the Holocaust. The primary focus in my novel is about the main character Elie Wiesel and what he experiences at the Auschwitz concentration camp. He witness a ton of death and inhumane actions taken by Nazi soldiers. After reading the first few chapters I am hooked in due to the graphic and unpleasant things that the Jews have to face.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the thing that was attracting was the Holocaust that was why it was on the top of my list. Your book is like mine in a way that both of the main characters are trying to survive from the bad people trying to rule them.
DeleteI loved the detail in this book the only thing is i wish he shared more of what he was thinking while he saw all the the horrid things happening around him.
DeleteI wish that he added in what the other jews were thinking or doing while this was happening. Were some trying to rebel? Did none of them try to protest? Who knows?
DeleteWhat attracted me to the book Night is reading a person's experience of going to a concentration camp and the feeling. In the beginning, it start off slow beside one of the character ending up being taken away in a cop car but nothing to intense. We also get a good look on how the protagonists is like, which is super religious, as well as want to learn the secret of being a Jewish that I don't know of yet.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that got my attention about the book night was not only the name of it but also what the book was about because i wanted to learn more about the jews and what happened to then in the camps they had to go to and also what the germans did to them and how it changed their lives.
ReplyDeleteI think this book is amazing at telling the story about how they were treated and what conditions they faced throughout their lives.
DeleteThe book I am reading is Kite Runner. I was sad that I got my third pick again but this book did actually interest me when I read about it. I think what drew me to this book was about how the two boys are very different from each other but they are still good friends. The book has started off really slow and nothing has really happened. I have a feeling that this book will begin to pick up soon. I also think the characters are really interesting which hopefully lead to a good book.
ReplyDeleteI also think that the book is very slow so far, hopefully it speeds up soon.
DeleteI am reading Night and I’m glad I am able to read a book about the holocaust from a survivor’s point of view. I believe that the primary focus of my book is about Elie or Eliezer experiences in Nazi Concentration camps during World War 2 and his Jewish culture. As of right now I don’t know much about his experiences from reading the introduction other than learning that Eliezer’s father was killed in front of him by an SS. My initial thoughts of the book are that Elie writes very formally and very descriptively so the reader can get the feel of the book much easier. It’s kind of a slow start at the beginning since he was just explaining to us short snippets of his past. So far, I’m not sure if I’m enjoying it as much as I thought I would but it still has a very interesting take on his experiences and I want to know more about his times in the camp.
ReplyDeleteI how you enjoy the book when you get farther into the story. I am reading the same book and i agree with what you said in your post.
DeleteI agree! I also wanted to read the book night because it was about a survivor of the holocaust. What I have learned with all of these books is that they all cover very severe and unsettling topics. They are all veery descriptive and leave a unsettling feeling in the reader's gut. I look forward to reading more about you book.
DeleteI am Reading i am malala this was my last book, i didn't want to read it but i dont really know what i think about it it pretty much jumps right to and tells you exactly what happen, so i think its pretty boring after that.
ReplyDeleteWhat attracted name was the cool name, the maian focus is two women in afghanistan, out of the two main characters i only remember mariam and she seems neat, slow start i forgot everything
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book A Thousand splendid suns. So far it has started out really slow and has not really shown much about what is going to happen. So far it has talked about the narrator and her mother who has a very negative look on life. and a man named kalil who has 9 kids and is a very powerful man. I was attracted to this novel because of the different outlooks and 2 different lives it has. I cannot wait to keep reading and find out more!
ReplyDeleteI love your reasoning for picking the book because that's what drew me towards picking the book as well. I also cant wait to keep reading and to find out more about the narrator and her mother.
DeleteI got my second pick book, a thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hosseini. This book interested me because it was completely different than any other books I've read in the past and I wanted to try something new so hopefully i like this book. So far it's been really hard to comprehend what's going on because its introducing so many characters and places with odd names. Theirs just a lot happening in the first couple pages like the main characters mom died.
ReplyDeleteGood luck reading and I hope you enjoy it.
DeleteThe Kite Runner caught my attention because it is about war in the middle east. I think I am almost to the part where the war breaks out and the book really drew me in because it is from the point of view of a wealthy child with his servants son who is also his best friend. It will be interesting to see war from a child's view and not a soldier. I am curious to see if the children will be utilized in war as they often are in the middle east. The book is still moving at a very slow pace and hopefully it will pick up soon.
ReplyDeleteI know this book is taking forever to start but i am ready for the political system to change the story and have a war. So its interesting and not just this little Amir who cant do shit and is such a geek to be raised by that father.
DeleteI'm reading A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. So far the book is really good because it jumps right into the action. The focus so far is that their is a war in the hometown of the main character and he has to find a way to survive. It starts really fast because kids are already dying in the first couple chapters.
ReplyDeleteit is nice that your book jumps right into action to pull you in and grab your attention. why does the kid stay in the home town? why dont they just leave and go somewhere safe? was it an ambush?
Deletemy first impression on this book is that im going to have a tough time committing to it. the start is slow and i am not engaged at all. i am reading Kite Runner and i am about 3 chapters in. i do not want to keep reading. i wish i would've gotten night, while it is a harder book to read it is shorter and it is about a topic i am interested in. i am just grateful i did not get the Malala book.
ReplyDeleteI feel you Caden but the kite runner sounded like an ok book but you`ll get through it just keep your eyes on the pages
DeleteThe Kite Runner caught my attention because of the idea of a friendship of two boys from different social classes in the middle east. The I feel the primary focus of the book is the friendship between Amir and Hassan and so far both have handled the friendship well although Amir doesn't truly see Hassan as a friend. the book moves very slowly but it may pickup the pace soon enough. my first impression of the book is that the author truly tries their best to make a full picture of events in your mind by giving all the small details.
ReplyDeleteNight caught my attention because it is based on WW2. I have been interested in WW2 since I was little idk why, but I just am. I am interested in the holocaust and how Hitler had treated the Jews. I feel the primary focus of this book is Elie`s experience with the Holocaust and how the Nazi party had pretty much ambushed the Jewish culture. It states in the book that Hitler`s plan for Germany, had no room for Jews. But I really think that I am going to enjoy this book.
ReplyDeleteI truly have always found reading about the Holocaust since the first time i read about it in middle school. Going to visit old concentration camps in Germany is on my bucket list of things i want to do someday. When i found out that this book was about the holocaust is was going to be on the top of my list of books i want to read. I am reading the book Night that talks about the author Elie Wiesel's story of the Holocaust. This book starts of by telling the readers on how he felt when going to publish this book and how he was worried about how the readers would respond. After the Holocaust was over Wiesel was worried that it would be a forgotten tragedy. He was wrong and very glad he was. Although it is a very sad book it is so very important to our history today. After the prologue the book start by telling the readers about how the Jews life was before the war and the start of the ghettos. I am excited to keep reading. Although it is quite sad and hard to read.
ReplyDeleteThe book that I am reading is A Thousand Splendid Suns. I think that the book does a very nice job of jumping directly into the story line and making sure that the reader has a full understanding of the plot line. I was drawn to this book because it was actually on the list of books that I would like to read. I think that the main focus in this book is the role of woman in Afghanistan and the role that they are expected to follow. My first impression of the book is astonishment because I cannot believe that people are actually treated this way. You would think that this book was taking place hundreds of years ago based in the fact that girls are put into arranged marriages and forced into motherhood, but this book actually takes place fairly recently. Miriam was only born in the 1950's. So far, this book has me shocked.
ReplyDeleteI agree with how they are treating her is horrible and insane. It is hard to believe that this book was based off things from things from like 50 years ago
DeleteThe book i am reading is Long Way Gone. So far i am very interested in this book and the way the characters act. The book starts off showing us their daily life and how they all lived before the war reached them. After around two chapters the book throws you right into some action and becomes pretty gory.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Kite Runner I had very little interest in this book and still don’t, 5 chapters in. So far, we have learned about the characters main character Amir, and his best friend and servant Hassan. narrated by Amir about his past, my favorite character is Baba- Amirs father he is the only reason I'm still reading his opinions are interesting. But I think they are about to kill him off. This is a slow start but the books is long so I expended that so far I think a gunfight might break out.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is "Night." I am very interested in the Holocaust because it is a huge part of history, and it should never be repeated again. In Night I wished I could warn them Moishe a character that tried to warn every one of the terrors of the Nazis. No one believed Moishe and this caused their entire village to be sent off on trains. What freaked me out the most was when Moishe said that the Nazis would throw baby's up in the air as target practice.
ReplyDeleteThis book was my first choice, I am also very interested in the holocaust and I think this would have been a very good read.
DeleteI was drawn to this book because it wasn't an autobiography. As of right now the primary focus is the story is a girl named Marium who's going through a lot of hard times in her life. Marium is handling everything really well considering everything that has happened. My thoughts on the book are really good. I think it is really interesting and its easy to follow and I think I'm really going to enjoy this book.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading A thousand splendid suns
DeleteI am a little disappointed i got A Thousand Splendid Suns it wasn't really one of the books that I wanted. So far it has started out with a girl named Mariam as the main character and she lives with her mom in a little cottage outside of Herat. Her mother was servant for a rich man in Herat and he got her pregnant and she was cast out by his wives. Now they live alone in the cottage, but Mariam wants to go to the city and go to school and live with her father. I think so far the book is starting off really slow, all it has really talked about is random people that come to visit them.
ReplyDeleteI am also ready thousand splendid suns. i wasn't my first choice either but it is kinda boring in the first.it hard to read because it so slow and nothing is interesting or making me want to read more
DeleteA long way gone was not my first choice. although it seems to be better than I thought it was. It starts out with a young Ishmael Beah talking about war and how we never think it will happen around us. He explains that at a very young age, he experiences war when refugees started passing through his town. This leads to him being captured by the government army and turned into a very young soldier.
ReplyDeleteWhat attracted me to Long Way Gone was the premise of a child being thrust into the midst of a war, it seemed like a very interesting life story, and I wanted to see how Beah's experience shaped him. The primary focus of the story is how war affects both those on the sidelines and the direct participants. The characters are handling it fairly well, given the circumstances. They are beaten and worn down, but are still continuing, which is a lot to say for a group of barely teenage kids. I'm enjoying the book, and after a relatively slow first chapter, the book really dives headfirst into the consequences of the war. It spares no detail from the boy's suffering and the writing feels very raw, you can tell it was written from experience.
ReplyDeletei am reading the book a Long Way Gone. by ishmael, the thing that attracted me to this book was i want to see how hard some people's life could be a such a young age it is a good book and really action packed in the first few chapters. it is fun to read and you don't want to stop reading. right now he is on the run from the rebels. he is with a couple of his friends.
ReplyDeletethat was my first choice and I was wondering the same thing with how hard some people have it. I'm glad it's a good start. can't wait to hear more.
DeleteI got the book "A long way gone." I liked this book from the moment I started reading it don't get me wrong I like it, but it is really gory from the start. At the beginning of the book, it talks about his kid where he walks through his town after a war happened and there are people missing their heads and people shot laying lifeless on the ground. Let me remind you, he is only just a kid. But all in all, I am happy with the book I have gotten and it is making me hold my tong every page I wait because I don't know what's going to happen next.
ReplyDeletei got the book thousand splendid suns, it was not one of my top choices but i want to see how it goes. so far, it's about a girl named maria she lives outside of town. the book is really boring and slow. I'm hoping it starts to pick up a bit. its just confusing on whats happening so far.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I thought that the book would be more interesting and more things going on but so far the book has started off slow. So far it is not that enjoyable but it is also not that bad. Parts of it are hard to understand like the different names for everything and the different religions but the author does a good job of clarifying what things mean. The book is about two boys and there experiences growing up in Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is called Night. The reason why I chose this book is because it takes place during World War 2 and the Holocaust. The primary focus on this book is to show the eyes of the person's name Elie Wiesel. Its starts slow, then it starts to pick up after. overall, I think this book is going to be good?
